According to AFP, a group of 23 Chinese medical tourists travelled to South Korea to have cosmetic surgery on their faces. The surgery involved giving the group bigger eyes, slimmer chins and higher noses.

The women, who were aged between 36 and 54, looked so different to their passport photos that Airport Officers were unsure as to whether they really were the women they claimed to be.

The women arrived at the airport after surgery sporting large sunglasses and hats in order to hide the bandages and stitches. The Airport Officers requested that they remove these items of clothing so that they could be identified, a process which normally takes just a couple of seconds.

After a few minutes of discussions, the Airport Officers eventually conceded that the women did match up to their passports, however they requested that the women renewed their passports immediately to ensure no identity mix-ups in the future.

The cosmetic surgery market abroad is booming. Over 100,000 people travel to foreign countries for surgery each year and that figure is expected to rise as recession takes hold of Britain – in fact, 87% of those seeking treatment overseas do so to save money.

In light of this, a national newspaper supplement magazine is looking to commission a feature investigating this rising trend, but also highlighting the possible risks of surgery abroad and trying to raise awareness of what questions potential patients should be asking. This article is not designed to scaremonger – it is hoping to inform and advise the ever-growing number of men and women seeking cosmetic surgery abroad.

As part of this larger feature, women (between the ages of 20-35) who have ventured overseas for beauty procedures in the past but weren’t happy with the results are being sought.

The possibility of a photo shoot has not yet been confirmed but if so, it would take place in London with a hair and make-up artist and stylist – all expenses paid.

If you, or anyone you know, would be happy to share your story to help guide potential patients of cosmetic surgery abroad, please get in touch at victoriajoy25@gmail.com.
