Experts have warning that the UK’s children are becoming so obese that cosmetic surgeons are routinely performing breast removal operations on young boys. A growing appetite for fast food and a couch potato lifestyle are thought to be the main two factors fueling the trend. Figures released earlier this month have shown that British children are amongst the heaviest in Europe, weighing around a third more than they should.

Doctors have said that some boys are developing female breast tissue as a consequence of being overweight. Some breast removal operations are also being coupled with liposuction to help reduce the patient’s weight.

The breast tissue being removed is different to standard fat – the obesity in some children has led to hormone imbalances which causes unnatural growth of female breast tissue. To rectify the situation, children are given liposuction to remove the glandular and breast tissue and fat from around the chest area to give a flatter appearance.
